Hollywood donations have poured into actress Melissa Gilbert’s campaign since she announced her bid for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District seat last summer.
Alec Baldwin, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael Douglas, Seth Green, Matthew Perry, Jennifer Garner, Sarah Paulson, Elizabeth Perkins, Sara Gilbert, John Slattery, Daniel Stern, Kiefer Sutherland, Steve Zahn, Seth MacFarlane Florence Henderson, Juliette Lewis, Katey Sagal, Kevin Kilner, Jack Coleman, Dreamworks’ Jeffrey Katzenberg, and writer Aaron Sorkin have all contributed to Gilbert’s campaign, according to FEC reports.
The ‘Little House on the Prairie’ actress served as President of the Screen Actor’s Guild from 2001-2005.
Gilbert is running against Republican Rep. Mike Bishop. Republican Mitt Romney carried the district by three points in 2012 and national Democrats are targeting Bishop in 2016. Last month, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee named Michigan’s 8th District as a potential pick-up seat for the party.
While some political observers have acknowledged Gilbert faces an uphill battle, she has proved to be a savvy fundraiser. In 2015, Gilbert collected $403,000 in campaign contributions.
