Celebrities are throwing their support and opening their wallets for candidates in race for New York City’s mayor.
Christine Quinn recently nabbed the endorsement of director Brett Ratner and had previous support from Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner. Last week she released a list of 1,700 LGBT supporters for Quinn, including Neil Patrick-Harris, Lance Bass, Meredith Baxter, Victor Garber, George Takei, Zachary Quinto, Tim Gunn and screen writer Dustin Lance Black. Other celebrity supporters include Whoopie Goldberg, Brooke Shields, Gloria Steinem, Candice Bergen and previous donors reportedly include Anna Wintour, Harvey Weinstein and Jon Bon Jovi.
Before deleting his Twitter account, Alec Baldwin tweeted he was raffling off invites to a dinner fundraiser with candidate Bill de Blasio. Also supporting de Blasio, include Steve Buscemi, Russell Simmons, Susan Sarandon, Paul Simon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Alan Cumming.
Republican candidate Joe Lhota has the support of actor Steve Schirripa, and Democratic candidate Scott Stringer has the support of Scarlett Johansson. However, former Rep. Anthony Weiner hasn’t been able to nab any endorsements yet.
With the election months out (Nov. 5), Weiner and the other candidates still have time to win the “Hollywood vote.”
